The Green Bay Packers have released running back James Robinson from their practice squad.
The team had originally added the running back 20 days ago, right after releasing Patrick Taylor. Robinson's tenure in Green Bay ends without him playing a single snap for the Packers.
The move is probably an indication that the Packers are more comfortable with undrafted rookie Emanuel Wilson.
To start the year, Wilson was on the 53-man roster mainly because general manager Brian Gutekunst wanted to protect him from other teams. However, veteran Patrick Taylor was a de facto RB3.
Taylor was elevated for the practice squad for gameday three times. After being promoted to the 53-man roster for the Las Vegas Raiders game, when Aaron Jones was surprisingly out, Taylor was cut and didn't re-sign to the PS again — he ended up signing with the New England Patriots.
James Robinson had a good start to his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he hasn't achieved consistency and success since he suffered an Achilles injury in 2021. Since then, he had short stints with the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and New York Giants.
Emanuel Wilson had a good performance against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, getting 43 yards on four rushing attempts.
The Packers have only three running backs on their roster: Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, and Emanuel Wilson. It's possible that they add another option to the practice squad, but nothing has been announced so far.
