Former NFL GM on what it would take for the Patriots to trade for Titans HC Mike Vrabel

It's not often that an NFL team trades for another head coach, but the idea of the New England Patriots trading for Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is starting to pick up some steam.
Nothing is imminent at this point, but if the Patriots trade for Vrabel to replace Bill Belichick this offseason, it would be the second straight offseason that an NFL coach has been traded.
The Denver Broncos traded a 2023 first round pick and a 2024 second round pick to the New Orleans Saints last offseason for head coach Sean Payton (New Orleans also sent a 2024 third round pick to Denver in the deal).
Former NFL GM weighs in on what the Patriots should offer the Titans for Mike Vrabel
For now, the idea of New England trading for Vrabel is total speculation. But it's an idea that is starting to circulate around the league. And it makes sense. Vrabel might be looking for a fresh start as he appears to be heading for a second straight losing season in Nashville, thanks mostly to a lackluster roster, after enjoying four straight winning seasons from 2018 to 2021.
Vrabel, of course, played for the Patriots from 2001 to 2008, winning three Super Bowls during his time in New England.
The Boston Globe's Ben Volin reported earlier this month that Vrabel is Patriots owner Robert Kraft's "home run choice" to replace Belichick (there's growing speculation that Belichick and New England will part ways after the 2023 season).
Former NFL GM Randy Mueller is on board with the idea of New England trading for Vrabel.
Mueller, who has been a GM for the Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints, wrote a column for The Athletic on Wednesday where he suggests what kind of offer the Patriots should make for Vrabel.
The former NFL GM, who noted that Kraft traded a first round pick to the New York Jets for Belichick in 2000, thinks the Patriots should offer the Titans a 2024 second round pick for Vrabel.
From The Athletic: If the Patriots, who have the AFC’s worst record, continue on this course and earn a top-five pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, giving that up would be a little steep for my taste, but the challenge of sorting out a fair value could be worked out, and if Vrabel really wanted out, the Titans and Patriots could find common ground fairly easily.
If I were Kraft, I’d reach out owner to owner and offer a 2024 second-round pick, as it will be a high one. I would not touch a pick in the top 10 because I’m not willing to give up the farm, and if I were the Titans I might counter to acquire an additional pick in a subsequent year.
Trading Vrabel to the Patriots would allow Titans general manager Ran Carthon to hire his own head coach. And if the Titans get a second round pick from the Patriots, which would be an early second round pick, it would give the team some much-needed additional draft capital.
