Extra motivation will be within two players when the Cleveland Browns host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4.

The AFC North showdown will feature two players specifically going against their former teams. Edge rushers Za’Darius Smith and Jadeveon Clowney will look to defeat their former teams.

Cleveland’s Smith will take on the team that drafted him back in the 2015 NFL Draft, meanwhile, Clowney will take on the team he spent the last two seasons with.

Over the first four seasons of his career, Smith totaled 18.5 sacks with the Ravens in 58 career games (16 starts). Smith hit his stride as a full-time starter in the NFL after leaving the Ravens and joining the Green Bay Packers in 2019. In the last three seasons that Smith has played, he has recorded double-digit sacks.

With the Browns so far this season, Smith has graded out very well. He has five tackles, one tackle for a loss, and four quarterback hits. The former Kentucky Wildcats standout will soon have sacks to follow.

Clowney is off to a pretty good start himself with 1.5 sacks, nearly the total he had last season (2) despite playing in 12 games. With injuries on the edge, Clowney has started a pair of games already for Baltimore.

Last season, Clowney and Cleveland did not part ways in the best of ways. The Browns sent the former Pro Bowl player home a game early after he called out the coaching staff, specifically then-defensive coordinator Joe Woods. It was an unfortunate end to a down season that was pretty darn good with the Browns in the previous season when he had nine sacks.

There’s no doubt that these two players will want to perform well against their former teams. Whether it is admitted or not, athletes always want to play their best against old teams.
