The New Orleans Saints fell to 2-2 in a rough loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4. The score was 26-9, but it was painful in eery way for the Saints and their fans.
Bucs HC Todd Bowles is now 3-0 against the Saints as Tampa's head coach.
For the Saints, they must make a change when it comes to their offensive coaching staff. Sunday's performance against TB was just another tally to a disappointing count for Pete Carmichael'new s group.
The statistics tell the story. New Orleans totaled just 197 total yards on offense. They threw for just 127 passing yards against a under-manned Bucs secondary.
The most mind boggling offensive stat comes for Alvin Kamara. He was very involved, but the efficiency was not there. Kamara caught 13 passes for just 33 yards. That is a notion to how often Derek Carr had to check the football down against Tampa Bay.
The play-calling on third down was consistently odd, too. For the first three quarters of the game, Saints OC Pete Carmichael Jr. refused to run multiple routes around the sticks. Instead, there were consistent deep shots that were not working.
Simply put, the Saints are too talented to deal with these types of struggles on offense. Derek Carr was never going to fix every problem, but it is clear that the offense is head-scratching at multiple levels.
So far this season, New Orleans is the only team in the NFC yet to score 20 points in a game. Unacceptable.
The Saints have been quick to praise QB coach Ronald Curry on their staff. This is their shot to put their money where their mouth is. Make a change and allow him to call plays.
You truly cannot get much uglier than Week 4's offensive output from New Orleans.
