The Las Vegas Raiders sent their rookie quarterback to play against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, as Jimmy Garoppolo was ruled out with a concussion.

Aidan O'Connell didn't have the best start to his NFL career:

  1. He didn't get the win.
  2. He was sacked seven times, which can't feel good Monday morning.
  3. He had three fumbles lost two of them, and that just can't happen.

But there were some positives, too. At the end of the game, outside of the interception that lost them the game, O'Connell was making some great throws. Not to mention, he drove them down the field two times in a row, with that second time giving the team a chance to tie the game.

The final play, in my eyes, shouldn't have been called. I believe that the play should not have been for a rookie making his first-ever appearance in a game. They certainly could have put the rookie in better situations.

Overall, it wasn't a terrible outing. In fact, his best receiver thought he played fine.

"He was ready, prepared just like he always does; I feel like he did a good job. It's a learning process, and I think he will only get better as we go. We just have to do a good job of helping him out. Up front, giving him time, and you know the wideouts doing what they have to do to make sure he is getting in a groove. You know, for his first outing, it was obviously not the way he would have drawn it up, but he did well in my eyes," Davante Adams said in the locker room after the loss.

The Raiders have to put the rookie in better situations. I will say this: fans should want to see more of O'Connell, as in seeing him another week. Because he played well and showed glimpses of things that Garoppolo just hasn't.
