New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said what fans were terrified of on Monday afternoon.
Allen confirmed that the team isn't making any coaching staff changes. That includes play-calling duties.
Of course, that means that offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. will continue calling plays as of now for the Saints.
“No we won’t make any coaching changes. I’ve never seen that to be the right answer, particularly when we’re four games into the season. And yet we have to be better. I understand everyone’s frustration because everyone in the building feels it.”
— Dennis Allen on considering staff changes
It's an expected, but disappointing, decision by the Saints coaching staff.
Carmichael Jr. has proven for over a season's-worth of football games that he may not be the best option at OC for New Orleans. That's not enough for Allen to make a change yet, though, apparently.
The Saints rank 25th in points per game so far this season. They totaled just 197 total yards in their Week 4 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There's no more evidence they need to make a change, but alas.
The offense is too talented to see this many struggles. They haven't scored above 20 points yet this year. New Orleans hasn't scored more than thirty points since Week 7 of last season.
Making a change may be the only way to see if different play-calling would make a difference, but the Saints are choosing to bang their head into the same brick wall on offense instead.
