One of the biggest questions in this early season has been: when will Joe Milton take off and make some plays with his legs? Consider that question answered in a very big way on Saturday afternoon against UT-San Antonio.
Milton took off for an 81-yard yard touchdown run on the very first play from scrimmage for the Vols.
On first-and-ten from the UT 19-yard line, Milton kept the ball on the read option after the defense attacked the running back, and he bolted around the edge and ran away from the UT-San Antonio defenders up the sideline and all the way to the end zone for 81 yards and a 7-0 lead. Per the university, it was the longest run by a quarterback in Tennessee football history.
A continuing question among many fans has been about Milton's reluctance to run rather than staying in the pocket. Through three games, he had only accumulated 46 rushing yards on the ground. This type of play shows that Milton has the ability to be someone that must be accounted for on the ground.
Tennessee leads UT-San Antonio 14-0 early in the first quarter.
