Cleveland Browns are working out a free-agent veteran safety today, which could signal something unfortunate.
The Browns have safety Erik Harris in for a workout/visit today, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Cleveland is currently dealing with an injury to starting safety Juan Thornhill. Thornhill has not practiced since Sept. 6 with a calf injury and missed the Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
It appears that the Browns may be looking at options if he is not able to go.
Harris has seven years of experience in the NFL at 33 years old. In 2016, Harris appeared in four games with the New Orleans Saints, then 15 games with the Raiders organization the following season. During the 2018 season, Harris started for the first time, which was four games with the Raiders. In 2019, the safety was a full-time starter and had three interceptions and two touchdowns.
The Atlanta Falcons brought in Harris in 2021 and he played 22 games for them over the last two seasons. Overall for his career, Harris has played in 91 games with 43 starts. All five of his career interceptions came in his first four seasons in the NFL.
At this time, the Browns have Ronnie Hickman and D’Anthony Bell providing depth behind Grant Delpit and Thornhill.
It’ll be telling to the situation if the Browns decide to bring in Harris if the workout goes well.
Browns’ Kevin Stefanski okay with Myles Garrett living out his ‘hoop dreams’ with a certain twist
Maybe we’ll see Myles Garrett try a new basketball move on the field in Week 2.
