The Indianapolis Colts dropped their season opener in Week 1 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. And will now turn their focus to avoiding the dreaded 0-2 start.
To prepare for Week 2, I asked all of Colts Nation to submit questions surrounding the team for Week 2 of our Colts Fan Bag Friday series.
Every Friday of the season, I will be dropping a "Colts Fan Bag" article answering questions that fans sent to me ahead of the Colts upcoming matchup.
Q: Do you expect Shane Steichen to open up the playbook more in Week 2?
A: I believe the team will continue to ease into the full playbook being opened up for sure. As Richardson gets more accustomed to the NFL and this offense, we will see more from Steichen. But with the possibility of both starting safeties being out for the Houston Texans, I think that element will be utilized more this week.
Q: Should we be worried about Alec PIerce after Week 1? – Jason Robert Ebbert from Facebook
A: It was a much quieter debut for the 2nd year WR than many would have liked to see. But I do not think fans need to worry just yet. Only a portion of the team's playbook was being utilized in Week 1, and the deep ball wasn't explored at the level I believe it will in this offense. And that is where Alec Pierce will shine. I expect more balls going his way this week, with that element likely being explored more in Week 2.
Q: Do you think coach (Steichen) will continue to be aggressive on 4th down this week?
A: I think fans should expect Steichen to continue to be aggressive on 4th and short; and even 4th and moderate, for the foreseeable future. It seems like that will be a staple with coach Steichen, and in Week 1, analytics back every 4th down attempt he elected to go for. I think we will see greater success on those attempts as time goes on.
Q: What tweaks will the offensive line need to make for Week 2? – Michael Fischer from Facebook
A: The Colts offensive line actually held up nicely in week 1 when it came to pass protection. Only 1 actual sack was allowed by the team, and two were Richardson running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage instead of throwing it away. Where they have to make adjustments is in the run game, where they were abysmal in Week 1. I expect them to get creative this week to get the run game going.
