Can the Bears pass rush disrupt Baker Mayfield?
A lot of the same struggles from 2022 continued for the Bears in Week 1. The team simply struggled to get after the quarterback. The defense only managed to reach Packers quarterback Jordan Love three times, while only bringing him down once.
For the team that ranked 32nd in the league in sacks last season, improvement needs to be shown this weekend. As previous history has shown, the Bears will have a ideal matchup if they can create pressure against Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Since entering the league in 2018, Mayfield has shown obvious limitations when pressured by opposing defenses. His 61.4 completion percentage in a clean pocket falls to 45.7 percent when he's been pressured prior to this season.
However, in Week 1, Mayfield seemed to be unfazed under duress. According to TruMedia, the Vikings' defense blitzed Mayfield on a league-high 47.4 percent of his pass attempts, yet only managed to hit him twice.
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus will have to get creative on Sunday to find ways to get after the Buccaneers quarterback without the help of defensive coordinator Alan Williams, who will be missing the game due to personal reasons.
3 Other Players to watch out for:
RB Roschon Johnson- The Bears rookie running back is expected to have an increased role in the offense this week after an impressive Week 1 performance. Johnson finished the game with 55 total yards and a touchdown, earning high praise.
CB Jaylon Johnson- Johnson, the team's top cornerback, will have his hands full on Sunday against wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. The 2020 second-round pick was targeted four times, allowing just one reception, against the Packers.
WR DJ Moore- After a disappointing Bears debut, Moore is ready to be unleashed against a familiar opponent. The former Carolina Panther has faced the Buccaneers 10 times in his career, totaling 58 catches for 766 yards and three total touchdowns.
Buccaneers head coach believes it’ll take a team effort to contain Justin Fields
His defense will have a tough task on Sunday
