The Jacksonville Jaguars narrowly lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 9-17 in their home opener. Here's what happened:

Offense struggled to score-

The explosive offense that graced NFL fans' eyes last week was nowhere to be found today. Every point scored on the Jaguars end came from the foot of Brandon McManus. Although the Jaguars protected the football, they just couldn't score.

The Chiefs' offense led the Jaguars' offense in every single category, including 3rd down efficiency. The Chiefs went 5/13 on 3rd downs, while the Jags went 3/12. The Chiefs were also 2/2 on 4th down conversions, while the Jags were 0/2- a telltale sign of the final score.

Defense took the ball away-

The Jaguars' defense gave Patrick Mahomes and his offense a hard time today. Jacksonville held the Chiefs' offense to just 17 points and forced a few turnovers while doing so. Jags' corner Darious Williams came up with a clean peanut punch to force a fumble on Chiefs wide receiver Justin Watson.

Jacksonville's special teams also got a piece of the turnover action, as Tim Jones recovered a Richie James muffed punt almost immediately after it left James' body.

Despite the turnover-heavy day, none of it really matters if your offense can't score- and that's exactly what happened.

The Houston Texans come to town next Sunday for a divisional matchup with the Jaguars.
