Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young didn't enjoy how he played against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1.

But that is the nature of the NFL. After one bad week, teams can turn the page and move on. Young has another opportunity to prove himself on the road to stardom in the NFL against the New Orleans Saints Monday night on Monday Night Football. And if anyone asks the Panthers coaching staff isn't worried about their quarterback under pressure. They believe the No. 1 overall pick is merely too stubborn to fail moving forward.

“He has a strong and somewhat in a good way – and I mean this in a complimentary way because all the good ones have it – stubborn nature to him,” Panthers head coach Frank Reich said, “because that’s what it takes sometimes to be great, so he has that blend of confidence and humility that you’re looking for.”

Young's priority Monday night will be pushing the ball downfield. That was the main struggle the Panthers' offense struggled through in the first week of the season. Young didn't have a pass travel more than 20 yards. Reich stressed that against the Saints, that will have to change. And much of that change will come by way of the gameplan Reich and offensive coordinator Thomas Brown draw up.

Naturally, executing the game plan will fall on Young's shoulders. And it is a burden the coaching staff feels like he can handle.

“I think Bryce is obviously super competitive, as we all are,” Brown said last week. "He’s normally going to be always calm, cool, and collected. But when it comes to when we make plays, having fire, showing some emotion for the first time in that setting, it was great to see as we kind of learn more about him and him about us also.”

Stretching the field vertically will be the Panthers' recipe for success. And Young's stubbornness will be the quarterback's antidote for a slow start to his career. With both in hand, the Panthers have a legitimate opportunity to stave off a 0-2 start.
