The New England Patriots and tackle Trent Brown have agreed to a revised contract that adds $2,000,000 worth of incentives to his deal for 2023, making his deal worth up to $13 million total, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The revised deal does not add any future years to his deal. Brown is still set to hit free agency after this season.
Brown missed week two due to a concussion but was the team's highest-graded pass blocker in week one. The Patriots' offensive line has struggled immensely, allowing Mac Jones to be the sixth-most pressured QB in the NFL through two weeks. The Patriots' offensive line is currently the 32nd-ranked run-blocking line and 26th-ranked pass-blocking unit, according to PFF.
The lack of weapons and offensive line talent has had trickle-down effects on the offense, leading to it being largely inefficient. The Patriot's offense ranks 24th in EPA/per play, a highly regarded efficiency metric. It may not be a long-term answer at tackle, but stability along the offensive line is currently priority number one for the Patriots, and they start by incentivizing their best player.
