Week 3 brings the New Orleans Saints another well-known NFC foe. The Saints will face the Green Bay Packers this weekend.
Green Bay sits at 1-1 so far this year, while the Saints are 2-0. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur had some strong praise for both sides of the ball for New Orleans.
LaFleur consistently mentioned the experience and attention to detail that comes with the Saints' players and coaching staff. They impress him and others around the NFL. For the offense, he thinks that New Orleans can be very explosive, but he forgot to mention the most explosive player on the team's offensive unit: Rashid Shaheed.
They [Saints] have a lot of guys. I think Carr can sling it. He's been doing it for years, and he's gonna give his guys opportunity. So [they] definitely have a lot of explosive pieces [and] we need to make sure that we limit those explosive attempts. — LaFleur on the Saints offense
Shaheed has been impressive through two games this year. He is building on an exciting rookie campaign from last season.
So far, Shaheed has recorded 9 receptions for 152 yards and one touchdown. He's averaging 16.9 yards per reception and consistently gets open downfield for QB Derek Carr.
His total production is better than players like Drake London, DeAndre Hopkins, and D.J. Moore through two weeks of 2023. Keep in mind that he isn't even considered the top WR option on his roster by many, either. Chris Olave and Michael Thomas fulfill plenty of target share.
It'll be intriguing to see how often the Saints get Shaheed involved in Week 3 against the Packers. Their secondary has been inconsistent through the first two weeks of the year, but they have plenty of talent.
Shaheed is the definition of a downfield threat, but he is blossoming into a complete wide receiver for the Saints.
