Los Angeles Rams are moving on from their 2020 second-round pick in the NFL Draft.

Running back Cam Akers has been traded to the Minnesota Vikings. The return is a pick swap in the 2026 NFL Draft.

It was reported yesterday that Akers was thought to have played his last bit of ball with the Rams and they were going to move off of him, whether it was trade or release. By the return on the trade, they took what they could get to move his salary, the reason they were trading him in the first place.

Akers is just under $2 million this season in terms of a cap hit but his play hasn’t been there as of late. The former Florida State standout had 22 carries for just 29 yards in Week 1, then did not play in Week 2. Akers did close out last year strong with three straight games of at least 100 yards to start the season.

At just 24 years old, Minnesota gets a running back who has shown talent in this league but has lacked consistency. Akers ran for 1,443 in 30 career games.

The Vikings made the trade to add running back depth to a room that needs more production. After releasing Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison has given the Rams just 62 rushing yards through two games. Ty Chandler is the only other back to get a carry and he’s run the rock four times for no yards.

Los Angeles is moving forward with Kyren Williams taking the carries, he has 52 yards rushing in each of the first two games.

The Vikings get a low-risk high-reward kind of player and the Rams move off of a player they no longer have a spot for.
