A new report suggests that the Chicago Bears could be looking to replace head coach Matt Eberflus with a familiar face.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini said during an appearance on The Herd this week that Chicago has had conversations about replacing Eberflus with Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh.
"The Chicago Bears are [an] organization I've heard have had conversations about [hiring Harbaugh] depending on what decision they make with this staff that is in place," said Russini.
Eberflus is 7-22 through his first 29 games as Chicago's head coach. With the Bears likely heading toward a reset at quarterback, it could make sense for the franchise to look for an offensive minded head coach.
And Harbaugh, who has been lauded for his work with quarterbacks throughout his coaching career, would be a good fit.
Harbaugh, of course, played for the Bears from 1987 to 1993. He knows the franchise, he's a good regional fit, and he could be looking to get back into the NFL after dealing with the sign stealing scandal that has rocked Michigan this season (which has also potentially been blown out of proportion).
The former Bears quarterback was 44-19-1 during his four seasons as the San Francisco 49ers' head coach.
This report from Russini doesn't mean that anything has been decided with Eberflus, but it certainly sounds like the Bears are open to the idea of making a change.
