The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to face off against the New England Patriots in just a few days, and now they will have a familiar face on their bench.

Trace McSorely, who spent the preseason with the Patriots, is being signed by the Steelers practice squad.

Pittsburgh's starter Kenny Pickett underwent ankle surgery on Monday morning after suffering a high ankle sprain in their loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Because of that, it will be backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky who will get the start on Thursday night against the Patriots.

McSorely began his career with the Baltimore Ravens, being drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie season playing as the third-string behind Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffin III. He remained with the Ravens for three seasons before signing with the Arizona Cardinals for two seasons.

His time with the Patriots began in April of this year, but was released as part of final roster cuts. The Bears signed him to their practice squad in mid-October, but released him just over a month later.
