Jets' Saleh and Wilson caught in an awkward spot

The Jets, who currently sit at 4-8 are getting set to host the Houston Texans on Sunday at MetLife stadium. The Texans mirror the Jets in a lot of ways with one exception.
Both teams are coached by former San Francisco 49er defensive coordinators who are more “leaders of men” than an X’s and O’s guy. Both have a young defensive star out of Alabama. Both took quarterbacks with the second overall pick. The difference is the Texans appear to have hit on their QB while the Jets missed big time.
Dianna Russini, who is a fantastic insider for the Athletic, put out a report that the Jets are leaning towards going back to Zach Wilson as the starter, but he is “reluctant to accept the job”.
First off, good for Zach Wilson if this is true. I don’t believe the kid is an NFL QB but don’t let an organization and fan base that has treated you like trash come back when they need you and throw you to the wolves.
That being said, if it is true, cut him now. No room for selfish dissension in the locker room, no matter how right you are.
Robert Saleh has since spoke to the media and addressed that very premise. "If he was reluctant to play, he wouldn't be here," Saleh said.
Regarding the reports that Wilson wouldn’t play if the Jets tabbed him as the starter, Saleh claimed he was not aware of that. "If that discussion had been had, it just wasn't with me,” Saleh said. “The young man wants the ball, he wants to start, and he believes he's the best quarterback in the room and the best quarterback for this team."
Now we are stuck in a “he said, he said” word salad, when the simple fact remains it doesn’t matter. Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle or Trevor Siemian. It’s all the same.
The Jets offense is broken and it’s too late to fix it. This was a team that went all-in on a 39-year-old (now 40) quarterback with no backup plan in place. They wanted to have their cake and eat it too and they got caught with nothing.
They had no competent backup quarterback on the roster because they wanted to keep Zach Wilson on the team to learn from Rodgers and be the future. They kept Tim Boyle on the roster because Rodgers likes him. But when Rodgers went down, it became clear in an instant that this offense would not even touch average this season.
Robert Saleh has not handled this particularly well. He was steadfast behind Zach Wilson until he wasn’t. Now he seems like he doesn’t know what to do, which is the worst look for a leader.
He may have been wrong on his commitment to Wilson, but being committed to nobody is far worse. At this point Saleh has set to decide who will start opposite C.J. Stroud as the Jets will get a first hand look at what their team might have been.
The Jets defense caused more safeties in the first quarter of games this year than the offense scored touchdowns. You think the Jets players and coaches should be worried about who finishes off the season at quarterback? No. They should be worried about convincing Aaron Rodgers to let them keep their jobs in 2024.
Jets lose an ugly game to the Falcons
Another week. Another ugly game. Another embarrassing loss. Another quarterback who looks lost. Still zero answers. The New York Jets lost to the Atlanta Falcons by a final of 13-8 at a rainy MetLife Stadium and the Jets record now falls to a paltry 4-8 on the season. The story of the game was predictable. […]
