It was a great 48 hours for the Miami Dolphins. They clobbered the Commanders 45-15 in Landover, Maryland on Sunday afternoon. Then, the Green Bay Packers delivered a present by taking down the Kansas City Chiefs 27-19.
The Cincinnati Bengals were in position to deliver more help to Miami, and deliver they did on Monday night, edging the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-31 in overtime. Bengals backup QB Jake Browning had a stellar game, throwing for 354 yards and accounting for 2 touchdowns.
The three results have put the Miami Dolphins at the top of the AFC East standings through 13 weeks.
1) Miami 9-3
2) Baltimore 9-3
3) Kansas City 8-4
4) Jacksonville 8-4
5) Pittsburgh 7-5
6) Cleveland 7-5
7) Indianapolis 7-5
In the hunt: Houston 7-5; Denver 6-6; Cincinnati 6-6; Buffalo 6-6
Miami holds a temporary lead over the Baltimore Ravens by virtue of a better conference record, 6-2 to 6-3. The two will square off on December 31 in Baltimore, and it could be for the AFC's top overall seed.
In the meantime, the Dolphins have stretched their lead over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East to a full three games with five games left to play.
Miami 9-3
Buffalo 6-6
NY Jets 4-8
New England 2-10
The Bills will face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium. Meanwhile, the Dolphins host the reeling Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football. If those games go to the way of the favorites (the Chiefs are favored by 2.5; the Dolphins by 13), then the Dolphins could clinch the division against the New York Jets the following week.
Or if the Bills win, the Dolphins could put some distance between themselves and the Chiefs and possibly the Trevor-Lawrence-less Jaguars in the AFC standings.
It's a win-win situation for the Dolphins.
