The Los Angeles Rams have signed veteran kicker Mason Crosby to the practice squad. According to NFL Network NFL insider Mike Garofolo, the plan is to move Crosby to the active roster soon.
Crosby played 16 seasons for the Green Bay Packers, from 2007 to 2022, and was let go after last year. He's 39 years old and won Super Bowl XLV with the Packers.
The kicker was, alongside quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the only remaining Packers player of the Super Bowl championship still on the roster last year.
In 16 years for the Packers, the former sixth-round pick converted 395 field goals (81.4%) and 733 extra points (97.3%).
The Rams are not happy with their kicker situation this season. They started the year with veteran Brett Maher, but he was released after seven games, converting 73.9% of his field goals (17/23). He missed three kicks in the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, which motivated the decision.
After Maher was cut, the team signed Lucas Havrisik, who's been in the NFL since last year but had never played in regular season games. He converted seven of 10 field goals, and also missed an extra point try. He missed three kicks in their last two games.
With Crosby, the Rams expect to have more stability. At 39, he doesn't have a strong leg anymore, but he is still solid. In 2022, his last season for the Packers, he converted his 18 kicks from 0-39 yards and six of seven between 40 and 49 yards. The problem, and the reason why the Packers moved on, is that Crosby converted only one of four 50+ yard kicks.
Puka Nacua is a huge building block for the Rams
Nacua is on the pace to finish his rookie season with 1,278 receiving yards
