The Jets came into their game against the Miami Dolphins with a greater sense of urgency than they have shown recent weeks, opting to bench quarterback Zach Wilson in favor of backup Tim Boyle.

New quarterback.  Same offense.

Tim Boyle was not the answer the Jets were hoping for and the Jets lost to the Dolphins by a final of 34-13.  The loss drops the Jets to 4-7 while the Dolphins now improve to 8-3.

The game, which was the first ever NFL game played on Black Friday, was never really in doubt as the Jets offense continued to prove its inability to move the ball.

Boyle, for his part, was a Zach Wilson-esque 27 for 38 for 179 yards.  Boyle threw one touchdown and two interceptions.  He was also sacked seven times in the game.

Boyle's lone touchdown came in what was essentially garbage time when he hit Garrett Wilson for a one yard touchdown.

It wasn't the only touchdown pass Boyle threw, but it was the only one for the Jets.  After the Jets managed a pick six on Tua, and then grabbed a second interception with just seconds to go before the half, Boyle threw a Hail Mary that will go down in infamy.

The Hail Mary was intercepted by Dolphins DB Jevon Holland and returned 99 yards for pick six at the half.  The play has been since dubbed the "Hell Mary".

Robert Saleh called it "a very unfortunate play when we felt like we captured momentum."

It's safe to say the problems for the Jets offense run much deeper than the quarterback position, but the Boyle move needed to be made.  Now another QB change needs to be made and the Jets need to turn the team over Trevor Siemian for the remainder of the season and figure out the offense in the offseason.

The criticism now turns to the coaching staff and particularly, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.  Many fans are calling for the Jets to make a change at who calls the plays on offense.

Robert Saleh wouldn't entertain the idea of changing play callers at this point indicating that he is sticking with Hackett.  “That would be a really long answer, an answer for another day,” Saleh said when asked why they aren't changing play callers.

In my opinion, it is not worth it.  The Jets made their bed went they went all in on Aaron Rodgers, and it doesn't help to change it now.  At this point, the Jets should be focused on 2024 and using the rest of 2023 to evaluate any options for the team next season.

The Jets have already begun that process.  CJ Uzomah has all but been replaced by Jeremy Ruckertt.  We saw the Jets bench struggling wide receiver Allan Lazard against the Dolphins for no other reason than he has not been effective.  Jason Brownlee got a lot more work with the offense.

The playoff drought will continue for the Jets.  That is almost certain at this point.  Nothing to do now but put themselves in the best place to end it next season.
