The Miami Dolphins had quite the scare on Monday night after Tyreek Hill went down with an injury. And how he was taken down is a hot topic across the NFL
Hill's tackle was controversial, with Sean Murphy-Bunting executing a hip-drop tackle on the receiver. He also got away with an obvious horse-collar tackle.
Based on the way Hill was down in pain, many started to worry that this could sidelie the Dolphins star player. And he is not the first one to get injured from that tackle.
At the December League Meetings on Wednesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke about many controversial topics, voicing his opinion on the hip-drop tackle
"Hip drop, I would tell you, I think we all should work to get that out of the game," Goodell said. "You see it escalated in the number of times it occurred this season. The injury can be very devastating. We saw that also. It's not just happening at the NFL level. It's also happening at other levels. (It's) something I feel like we've got to work very hard to get that removed this spring.".
Hill was forced to miss two quarters in Monday's game, but eventually came back in and played though the injury. He spoke to reporters after the game, providing a detailed account of how he felt after the tackle.
So, when it when it actually happened, I've obviously been dealing with some ankle injuries this whole season. And when it happened, my first reaction was like, 'man, my ankle's gone.' My adrenaline kicked in. I ran off the field. And then I sat for a while and got stiff. I was going through a lot of pain. Then I just made up in my mind, I came in at halftime. I text my wife, bro, like, this sh*t hurts. Need an ankle massage tonight. She was like 'you'd better get your a** back in that game dawg.' I was like, all right. So, it's made up my mind that it's going to hurt. It's going to suck. Tonight and tomorrow morning. You know, when I just went back in the game on my own without anybody saying Reek, go. Nah, it was like, f*ck this, I gotta get out there, you know, and bring some energy and be that spark. – Tyreek Hill
Along with Hill, some of the other big names to be injured by the hip-drop tackle this season are Ravens tight end Mark Andrews and Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. But there are many others from previous years.
While this has been a topic of conversation all season, Hill's injury might have finally set Goodell and the rest of the NFL over the edge. That's got to make fans feel better.
