The Green Bay Packers offense will get a huge boost on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter, running back Aaron Jones is expected to play.
Jones missed three games after suffering an MCL sprain against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The starting running back practiced on a limited basis in the last two weeks. He's officially listed as questionable to play, but his recovery gave the Packers confidence about his status.
Ideal moment
The Aaron Jones' return couldn't come at a better time. Fellow running back AJ Dillon is also questionable to play after breaking his thumb last Monday against the New York Giants. His situation is dicier, and there's no clarity on whether he will play or not.
The Packers elevated veteran running back Kenyan Drake from practice squad for gameday. Moreover, Patrick Taylor is also on the 53-man roster. If Dillon can't go, they will still have three available running backs.
Tough season
It's not been an easy year for Aaron Jones. He suffered a hamstring injury in week 1 and then the knee injury four weeks ago. With these problems, he missed six of the Packers 13 first games of the season.
So far, he's had 66 carries for 245 yards and two rushing touchdowns. His average of 3.7 yards per carry is the worst in a season in his entire NFL career.
The Bucs, though, are 29th in defensive rush success rate. However, they are fourth in EPA per rush, which means the Packers might be able to be effective running the ball, but it will be hard to get explosive plays on the ground.
