Todd Bowles has been the type of head coach that has always waited a bit too long to make most of his decisions with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Most of the big decisions by Bowles have come down to events outside of his hands making the decision for him. The right decisions usually happen in the end, they just take far too long to happen.

That is what has happened with Devin White. While it has been obvious for some time now that White doesn't have a future in Tampa, Bowles has drug his feet when it comes to handling the former super star. The good news is that Bowles' decision to keep White inactive today is indicative of the right decision finally happening.

White's career in Tampa has generally been a mixed bag. The good is obvious. White is a clear leader, an athletic freak, and an easy personality for a franchise to build around defensively.

White played a huge role in the Super Bowl run and looked like he was going to emerge as a major force as a pass rusher before Micah Parsons did something similar, but the problems in his game were equally obvious.

The former LSU man has always struggled against the pass, and that is inexcusable in a pass-first league. In addition to this, White's athleticism can sometimes create problems with the way he reads plays, putting the hyper-athletic backer in questionable places during the wrong times.

Todd Bowles really had no choice, especially when you look at the Bucs got better linebacker play when White was off the field. That is why Bowles chose to keep White on the inactive list today, and that likely means the end of White's time in Tampa.

There isn't a better indication that White is at the end of his time with the Bucs. Todd Bowles has always been his biggest supporter, often to the point of papering over massive mistakes and looking silly while defending his player.

Bowles, a head coach that is on one of the hottest seats in the NFL and is coaching a team in a massive playoff race, choosing to bench a captain, Super Bowl champion, and former fifth-overall pick tells you everything.

The Devin White era is over, but the good news for Buccaneers fans is that this probably makes the shaky defense a good bit better.
