The New England Patriots' quarterback situation has not been ideal this year, and it didn't seem like things were going to get any better when they decided to bench Mac Jones in favor of Bailey Zappe.
But that might have all changed on Thursday Night.
A stellar performance from Zappe in the first half allowed the Patriots to put up 21 points before the second quarter was over. It became too much for the Pittsburgh Steelers to come back from.
Zappe earned his first win as a starter this season, while Bill Belichick and the Patriots got their third victory this year.
And Zappe has one other accolade he can add to his resume.
According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, Zappe's three passing touchdowns in the first half are the first from a Patriot since Tom Brady in 2018.
Zappe started the scoring by sending a short pass to Ezekiel Elliott who ran it into the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown.
Jabrill Peppers than came away with another stellar defensive play, intercepting Mitch Trubisky and returning it for 32 yards, getting the ball to the Pittsburgh 11-yard line. Zappe took advantage, sending a pass to Hunter Henry for the second touchdown of the night.
And a little later, Zappe and Henry connected once again with a 24-yard touchdown.
After the game, Zappe was all smiles when speaking to reporters and had a clear message: "We deserve today."
Even Julian Edelman is confused by Patriots’ first-half performance against Steelers
This looks like a whole new team.
