The College Football Playoff Selection Committee caused quite an uproar on Sunday.
The Florida State Seminoles ended up being snubbed from this year’s CFP, as instead, the committee penciled in the Alabama Crimson Tide at the No. 4 spot in its final rankings of the year. There has since been much debate over whether the committee made the right call to pick the four teams that they perceived as the best in the nation or if they should have instead selected the teams that were deemed to be the most deserving to play in the CFP.
For Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith, he simply believes that the committee got it wrong this year because the Georgia Bulldogs deserved a spot in the CFP.
"But at the end of the day, I think about it — just like Kirby [Smart] said — if you say Georgia is not one of the best four teams, then you're lying to yourself, and I don't know what you're on — blue dust, whatever the case may be," Smith said during a press conference ahead of the Ravens’ game against the Los Angeles Rams. "But, it is what it is.
"So, I definitely think the 'Dawgs' are definitely one of the four best teams in the land — without a question — and if anyone else disagrees with that, it just goes back to opinions. … I definitely think the 'Dawgs’ should have been in there, in my words."
Smith, who starred at Georgia for three seasons and played in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, sure is not the only former Bulldogs player who shares such sentiments.
Overall, Georgia finished off regular season play with a 12-0 record, but its loss to Alabama in the SEC title game ultimately dropped the reigning national champions down to the No. 6 spot in this season’s final CFP rankings.
Georgia and Florida State will meet in the Orange Bowl later this month.
