NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans are getting another lucky break with the latest major injury news from around the NFL.

According to a report from James Boyd of The Athletic that was confirmed by Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, Colts running back Jonathan Taylor will undergo thumb surgery tomorrow.

Taylor is expected to miss a few weeks of action, meaning the Titans will not have to play him this weekend at Nissan Stadium.

Jonathan Taylor's Injury History

The Titans are going to finish the 2023 season without having seen Taylor at full strength. The 24-year-old running back missed the first four games of the season with a lingering ankle injury before making his return against Tennessee in Week 5.

While Taylor played in that game at Lucas Oil Stadium, he carried the football just six times while Zach Moss stepped up as the primary running back.

Since getting back on the field, Taylor has tallied 414 rushing yards on exactly 100 carries and four rushing touchdowns. He has also caught 16 passes for 137 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. In total, Taylor is averaging just under 80 scrimmage yards per game.

Unfortunately for both him and the Colts, this injury comes at the worst time possible. Taylor had his best performance of the season last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The All-Pro running back scored twice and averaged over six yards per carry. With the Colts currently holding a playoff spot in the AFC, Moss will have to once again step up against the Titans.

Containing RB Zach Moss

Zach Moss had a career day the last time he suited up against the Tennessee Titans. With Taylor's role diminished in Week 5, Moss ran for a career-high 165 yards and two touchdowns against Tennessee.

Up to that point, the run defense of the 2023 Titans had been one of the best in football. Since then, it has been a weakness for Tennessee's defense that has really cost them some tight games.

Moss' big day was highlighted by a 56-yard touchdown run that gave Indianapolis the lead. This time around, Tennessee has a chance at redemption and will be looking to limit the Colts' ground attack. Forcing Gardner Minshew to make throws down field probably gives the Titans the best chance to win. If they can't contain Moss, this game will probably end the same way.

Titans (4-7) and Colts (6-5) will kick off from Nissan Stadium at 12 p.m. CST this Sunday.
