It has not been an easy week for Sean McDermott.
The Buffalo Bills head coach has been dealing with a lot this past week after a controversial speech surfaced ahead of their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
However, after the game, the team made their opinion on McDermott pretty clear.
After he was done giving his postgame press conference in the locker room, one player shouted a strong message from the background.
"We got your back," he shouted to McDermott which was followed by cheers from the rest of the players.
General manager Brandon Beane then took over, but directed his message to McDermott as well.
"We got this man's back. Tough f****** week. We got your f****** back," Beane said as he handed McDermott the game ball.
Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver also spoke with reporters after the win, standing up for his coach.
"Just being resilient," Oliver told reporters about what he's seen from McDermott this week (via Syracuse.com's Matt Parrino). "I think that's a bunch of bull sh** what they did to him… Whatever leak or whatever, I think you're a coward."
"I got his back on everything. I know he's a good guy. Know he's a great guy actually."
All of this came after a report was released detailing a speech made by McDermott during training camp in 2019. The part that was highlighted was when he brought up the terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001 and talked about how they came together.
This shined a negative light on McDermott ahead of arguably the biggest game of the season for the Bills, but they didn't let it get in their way.
"It's been disappointing. It's been hurtful. At the end of the day, I know who I am," McDermott said on Friday after the report came out. "At the end of the day, I know how I handle myself. As I've said, humbly, I'm not without flaws. I wake up every morning and try and do the best job that I can to win games for the fans of the Buffalo Bills and do it the right way. And that's my main goal every day."
