By now, we all know what happened between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills in Week 14. The Bills almost always beat the Chiefs in the regular season, so that wasn't anything new. However, it's the way the game ended this time that has the Chiefs themselves and the fans in shambles.
We almost saw one of the greatest plays of all time, which could have won the game, by Travis Kelce and Kadarius Toney. But it was called back on a Toney penalty that saw him offside right from the snap.
The lateral play was truly one of the craziest things I have ever seen, and it will be forgotten by the end of the year because it didn't count. That's Travis Kelce being unselfish and going off-script like he does so often.
But what did the Bills see at that moment? What were they thinking as soon as it happened?
"Well, I was thinking we have to go score," Bills quarterback Josh Allen said to NFL Network's James Palmer after the game. "It was unbelievable. The ballsiest play I have ever seen."
Ballsiest and unbelievable are two great words to use to describe what could have been. Allen was in awe, but at the same time, he knew that he had to go score, or that was going to be the game-winning play. He had already been in a similar situation with the Chiefs before, but they left too much time on the clock – 13 seconds to be exact.
So, he was getting ready to do what the Chiefs did that year in the postseason. Only he didn't have to because the play didn't count. It was a penalty, but the issue is the inconsistencies by the refs all year long. Either way, it truly was an incredible play from an incredibly unselfish player.
