After not playing a single snap in Week 14 against the Baltimore Ravens, the Los Angeles Rams have high hopes for Tyler Higbee in Week 15.
Rams head coach Sean McVay said he is expecting Higbee's return ahead of the Rams' consequential matchup with the Washington Commanders.
“Hopefully, we’ll get Tyler back this week," McVay said. "That’s the expectation. That’s the goal."
Higbee suffered a neck injury during Week 13. He didn't play against the Ravens, which set into motion a series of events that led to rookie tight end Davis Allen having a monumental game against the championship contenders.
Before Allen stepped in to fill big shoes, the Rams also had to scratch Hunter Long, who went down with an MCL injury.
With the tight end room depleted, the Rams are now hoping to turn back to Higbee after a series of injuries.
"Still have Brycen Hopkins, who has done a lot of good things for us as well," McVay said of the tight-end situation. "We’ll take it a day at a time. We’re kind of just now in the last couple hours just getting all this information, and then you start to sort through your plans accordingly.”
If, by the week's end, Higbee is healthy, he ought to be the Rams' first option. However, if he isn't ready to return, having Allen — who appears to be rounding into form — could be good enough for Los Angeles to keep its playoff hopes alive.
