Joe Flacco has walked in and become the guy with the Cleveland Browns over the last couple of weeks. It is one of the better stories in the NFL right now.

Flacco is seeing success with the Browns at 38 years old and no one saw that coming. One of the reasons that he is seeing that success is the trust that Kevin Stefanski has in him to operate the offense.

Cleveland is throwing the ball more than they ever have this season with Flacco behind center. The analysis below shows just how big of a difference it is.

In the table, you’ll see that the Browns were passing the ball 55 percent of the time before Flacco came along and now they sit at 68 percent. Only one team in the NFL is passing the ball more than the Browns have the last couple of weeks.

Since joining the Browns, Flacco has 565 passing yards and five touchdowns with just two interceptions. He’s only completing 55 percent of his passes and that is a number the Browns would like to see go up.

To begin the year the Browns were passing the ball at a decently high rate with Deshaun Watson until he was derailed with a shoulder injury. Dorian Thompson-Robinson and P.J. Walker starting has forced Stefanski to run the ball more and the data backs that up.

Flacco is a veteran that has always slung it around in his career so it isn’t much of a shock. It is impressive that he was sitting on his couch a few Sundays ago watching football, now he’s leading the Browns on a playoff push.

The loss of Nick Chubb has certainly waivered how much the Browns run the ball and that dates back to Week 2. Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt have been effective in their own way but they’re not Chubb nor are they expected to be.

There are four games left in the regular season for Cleveland and they’re going to be operating without Dawand Jones and Jedrick Wills Jr. at the offensive tackle spots the rest of the way. Passing the ball a ton may be a bit harder down the stretch run but getting it out fast will relieve the weakness.

It’s going to be interesting where the Browns end their season with Flacco. Until the season ends, expect him to continue airing it out.
