Coach of the Year.
Coming into the season, the Rams didn't have much expectations. And given the slow start, those meager expectations only lessened. And then McVay found lightning in a bottle. The Rams merely have to win out, and they will find themselves in the NFL's big dance.
Currently, McVay sits in ninth when it comes to betting odds for the Coach of the Year award, according to BetMGM.
But it won't be smooth sailing for McVay to claim the award. Several candidates are also deserving of the award.
That list includes Dan Campbell, DeMeco Ryans, Shane Steichen, and Mike McDaniel, among others.
The main culprit holding McVay back from coach of the year would be the Rams' record.
Few coaches have won the award on a team that has finished only a few games above .500. That would be the case for the Rams.
Still, if Los Angeles gets into the playoffs after the start the team slogged through, McVay not only should get considered for coach of the year. He should be coach of the year.
There is no doubt about that.
