The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Buffalo Bills 31-10 win Week 15 in a humbling loss that has everyone second guessing just how legit America's Team really is as their issues on the road persist.
Moments after the Cowboys fell in embarrassing fashion, quarterback Josh Allen talked to reporters and delivered a painful but truthful assessment of the game.
"I felt like the kid that didn't do anything in the class project and got an A," Allen told the media postgame.
Those few words go a long way in adding insult to injury. Entering the game, it was understood that the Cowboys were in for quite the challenge. So much so that they were in fact two-point underdogs despite the better win-loss record.
The biggest reason for those expectations likely was the fact that the Bills counted with Allen, one of the very best quarterbacks in the league. However, all he had to do on Sunday was hand the ball off to James Cook over and over again, kick back, and relax.
Allen threw a total of 15 passes with seven completions for only 94 yards against Dan Quinn's defense. In spite of such low numbers, the Bills amassed 351 yards of total offense.
The reason why? They simply couldn't find aw ay to stop running back James Cook. The rising star really exposed the Cowboys' biggest flaw which remains their run defense. He went for 221 total yards with 179 on the ground, averaging 7.2 yards per attempt.
Seven. Yards. Every time he ran the ball.
"I wouldn't say it was our gameplan going into it," Allen confessed after beating the Cowboys with ease. "We just trusted the five guys up front, I think our tight ends blocked very well too, so six, seven guys, and the backs made us right."
For the Bills quarterback to admit they weren't even planning on running as much only to change their mindset when they realized how easy it was only makes the loss sting worse.
And the worst of it all is that symptoms on defense were varied. On Sunday, we consistently witnessed missed assignments and missed tackles. Heck, it wasn't even only Cook who picked apart the defense. Ty Johnson averaged six yards per rush in nine attempts, too.
"They ran the ball way too effectively," head coach Mike McCarthy admitted postgame. "Our run defense needs to be much better, without a question. I think everyone clearly knows that."
