Bill Belichick had the dream coaching team during the New England Patriots dominant run. And that led to six Super Bowl championships.

But things are certainly not the same in Foxborough right now. And because of the struggles, Belichick's job may be in the line.

However, the latest report might change Robert Kraft's mind about Belichick's future.

The Athletic's Jeff Howe reports that former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels could potentially return to the Patriots if Belichick remains the head coach.

McDaniels recently returned to Foxborough, attending the Patriots final game of the 2023 season when they lost to the New York Jets. And he saw firsthand how bad the offense is.

And he is free next season after being fired by the Las Vegas Raiders as head coach mid-season.

But when looking back on things, Brady flourished under McDaniels and even Mac Jones put up his best career performance in his rookie season under the direction of the former offensive coordinator. Jones even went to the Pro Bowl that year.

Belichick confirmed that he would meet with Kraft, similar to how he did after every season. But Howe provided some more context on the matter.

"Kraft and Belichick had an initial discussion Monday, and the expectation is they’ll meet at least once more, league sources said," Howe wrote. Belichick will need to lay out a firm plan to dramatically improve the on-field product… Part of that plan may include a reunion with former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who is considered a candidate to return, sources close to the situation said."

And when speaking with reporters early Monday morning, Belichick appeared to put the ball in Kraft's court. He seemed to imply that he wants to stay and continue coaching in New England.

It's unknown what bringing back McDaniels would mean for current offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, but this could be a step in the right direction for Belichick to show Kraft he has serious plans to turn this all around.
