The No. 5 seed Philadelphia Eagles are set to take on the No. 4 seed Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs.
The Eagles enter the matchup favored by 2.5 points, but FS1 NFL analyst Skip Bayless thinks the Bucs will win this one.
"I'm on record. I believe that the Eagles will lose at the Buccaneers a week from tonight," Bayless said in FS1's Undisputed. "Or should I say the Bucs will just put the Eagles out of their misery because this Eagles team has lost its way. It's lost its momentum. It's lost its heart. It's lost its confidence. It's lost all direction on who it is and where it's headed."
Bayless isn't all too surprised that this collapse happened to the Eagles because he noticed their flaws last season.
"And yet, if I may say so, I guessed this. I told you guys from day one this year. This defense is not very good," he said. "It's torchable, its getable. And it was getable all year long because now it's fallen down to 30th in points allowed. I thought it wasn't great a year ago because Dallas hung 40 on it on Christmas Eve. I said 'Man, they're not what you think they are on defense.'
"Even at 10-1 I sat right here and told you guys I don't believe in them. I don't trust them. And now they've fallen to 31st in stopping their opponents on third down, so they can't get off the field which obviously makes it really hard on the offense. Overall, this team has fallen to 27th in turnover differential. It's minus 10. So, it's turning the ball over and it can't stop anybody."
The Eagles have stressed about being on the same page all season long but at some point it's too late. And heading into playoffs definitely means it's too late.
"And [they] keep saying next week and next week and next week." This time of year, you can't flip a switch now," Bayless said. "When you lose five of your last six. And there were four games before this losing streak where you were on the razor's edge. And you barely hung on and kept getting outscored in the first half. You kept getting outgained for the whole game and you four straight games and you pulled them out. Pulled them out of your you know what. And then all of a sudden you started losing and you can't get it back."
Perhaps the Eagles' silliest move of all, Bayless suggests, was switching up their defensive coordinators thinking that would solve all of their problems, but they've only gotten worse.
"I can't remember a defensive coordinator getting demoted in mid-season. It just doesn't happen," Bayless said. "Sean Desai getting kicked upstairs in favor of coach pencil who I think is overrated anyway. He's another one of those chips off the Belichick block. And what have any of them ever done?"
We'll see if the Eagles can save themselves and prove the doubters wrong then they face the Bucs in Tampa next Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
