NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans made a franchise altering decision to move on from head coach Mike Vrabel on Tuesday. With the more time that passes since the decision was announced, the more details emerge about what led to Vrabel’s firing

On Wednesday morning, NFL insider Ian Rapoport appeared on NFL Network and shared some insight about what took place in Mike Vrabel’s meeting with Amy Adams Strunk and Titans ownership .

Here’s everything Rapoport and other insiders have laid out thus far.

According to Rapoport, Strunk had been giving consideration to moving on from Vrabel for months.

"I would say based on the way this was going the last couple of weeks, it's not a total surprise," Rapoport said of the Vrabel firing. "This was a decision made by Amy Adams Strunk and one that she has been mulling for the last several weeks. I would say last several months, ever since Mike vrabel went to New England and took part in the Hall of Fame day."

But seeing as there was a national report from Dianna Russini just over one month ago that the Titans believed they had a good coach in Vrabel and longterm plans for his future, the timeline of when this all started becomes even more confusing.

It has, however, become abundantly clear that Strunk's vision for the organization moving forward does not match Vrabel’s. It’s a big reason for the Titans going in a different direction. "The identity of what they want this team to be is not in line with Vrabel,” Dianna Russini said on 102.5 The Game on Wednesday morning.

That longterm identity and vision was likely the topic of conversation in Strunk’s meeting with Vrabel at the end of the regular season. According to Rapoport, Vrabel "went into a meeting yesterday (Tuesday) with the owner that was not a long meeting. He was presented with a couple different things and it sounded like he was not into it."

As a result, the Titans are now the sixth coaching vacancy across the NFL and Vrabel is immediately at the top of the list for teams searching for a head coach.
