Thanks to Nick Saban's retirement on Wednesday, Alabama Crimson Tide players now have 30 days to enter the transfer portal.

Alabama has an extremely talented roster. And it's inevitable that some players on the Crimson Tide's roster will test the transfer waters.

And there's one player, specifically, that the Tennessee Vols should immediately target (if he goes in the portal).

It's no secret that Tennessee needs some offensive line help — especially at the tackle position.

Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor, a former five-star recruit who was the No. 5 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class, is already one of the best offensive linemen in the nation. And he's better than anyone on Tennessee's roster. Proctor started every game at left tackle for Alabama as a true freshman in 2023.

The Vols could be getting a commitment from LSU transfer offensive tackle Zalance Heard. And they have Miami transfer offensive tackle John Campbell on the roster. But Proctor is the type of player that you find a place for on the roster. He would instantly bolster Tennessee's offensive line in a season where the Vols are hoping to compete for a national championship.

If you're Tennessee, you pay Proctor whatever it takes in NIL money to get him to Knoxville. And then the Vols can figure out the situation with Heard and Campbell. If the Vols lose one of those players because they land Proctor, then so be it. The team would still be better for it.

I think Tennessee has a smart approach with the portal. They are trying to build the program through high school recruiting while supplementing with portal additions. But the teams that compete for championships often have star players that came from the portal. If the Vols are serious about competing for a natty in 2024, then they'll go hard after Proctor and try to bring him to Knoxville. Otherwise, he'll be helping one of the Vols' competitors compete for a national championship.
