The good stuff that happened for the Lions against the Cowboys
Ok, I'm done with being upset and maybe you are too. Maybe you just want to be. It's New Years Eve people! It's time to go out with your friends and maybe kiss someone at midnight and start a new romance, or kiss the same person you've been kissing for 20 years and put some […]
Ok, I'm done with being upset and maybe you are too. Maybe you just want to be. It's New Years Eve people! It's time to go out with your friends and maybe kiss someone at midnight and start a new romance, or kiss the same person you've been kissing for 20 years and put some flare back into that romance. Maybe you don't kiss anyone and that's ok too. We can't be happy around midnight unless we take a positive out of this game. Here is that positive.
The Detroit Lions defense absolutely showed up in this game and frankly, they've been showing up for the last three weeks. The Cowboys are no joke on offense. This is a team that has scored more points than anyone this season and the Lions had them mostly locked down all night.
Sure CeeDee Lamb had a big game, but that mostly led to nothing. If Derrick Barnes simply tackles Dak Prescott in his own end zone early in the game, it wipes out a 92-yard touchdown. The Lions played really well other wise. They put on the pressure, got home a few times and forced two turnovers.
They're getting good at this turnover thing by the way. They've forced seven in the last three games. They've also recorded eight sacks in the last three games. So they're figuring that out too.
The Lions defense went from allowing 29.8 points per game in the first five games after the bye to 20.3 points per game in the last three games. That is a significant difference.
To make matters even better, this defense is about to get C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Alim McNeill and James Houston back in almost one fell swoop. Gardner-Johnson has been practicing for two weeks now, James Houston returned to practice on Thursday and Alim McNeill is reportedly expected to return to practice next week and might even play against the Vikings in Week 18. They all should be ready for the playoffs.
While the Lions offensively didn't play their best game on Saturday night, they've still scored 30 or more points in five of their last eight games and they're still one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL. No team has put up more offensive yards than the Lions have at this moment and they're fourth in points for.
While you might feel some despair from the way Saturday night's game ended, and believe me I don't blame you if you do, there is a lot to like about the way this football team is coming together at the end of the season as they approach their first home playoff game since 1993 and their first ever in Ford Field.
Officiating crew from Lions controversial loss reportedly expected to face punishment
Here's a breath of fresh air for the NFL. A very small breath of fresh air. I'm talking so small that you might want to put a respirator on for this. The crew is reportedly expected to face some punishment from the NFL in the form of they will be downgraded and out for the […]
