NASHVILLE — With their Week 17 loss to the Houston Texans, the Tennessee Titans fell to 5-11 on the season and 0-5 in games against AFC South opponents.
At this point, Titans fans are primarily concerned with their team's draft position and which players could be available when Tennessee in on the clock in April.
Here's an update on the Titans' position in the 2024 NFL Draft after Sunday's loss to the Texans the Week 17 results from around the league.
Guaranteed Top 8
With the Chicago Bears defeating the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, 24 of the 32 teams in the league have at least seven wins already. That means, at worst, the Titans would end up picking 8th overall in the 2024 Draft.
If Tennessee were to win in Week 18 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the other teams with five wins were to lose, the Titans would be jumped by the Jets. That's the worst case scenario for fans rooting for draft position.
Unfortunately, the Titans' loss in Houston didn't earn them any ground either. Tennessee is stuck right where they were this time last week.
7th Overall Pick
The New York Giants were one Mason Crosby field goal away from upsetting the Los Angeles Rams and picking up their sixth win of the season on Sunday. Unfortunately for titans fans, Crosby missed the game-winning kick and the Giants dropped to 5-11.
Because of tie breakers with the Giants and Los Angeles Chargers, the Titans are sitting in position to draft 7th overall. That's exactly where they were coming into this weekend's games.
The tiebreaker for draft position is based on strength of schedule. The teams with the lower strength of schedule are given the higher draft pick. While the Titans, Chargers, and Giants are all currently sitting with five wins, the Titans have played the most difficult schedule of the three teams, therefore would pick after them.
The Arizona Cardinals (who beat the Eagles on Sunday), Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots are all currently 4-12. If any of those teams were to win next week, there would be an opporuntity for Tennessee to jump them in the draft order depending on how the tiebreaker shakes out.
The Titans would need a lot to go right to move up from the 7th overall spot, though.
