The Dallas Cowboys are signing La'el Collins to their practice squad ahead of Week 18 following a workout with the team.

Cowboys fans aren't unfamiliar with the name since Collins started 71 games for the franchise between 2015 and 2021 before they parted ways with him due to injury concerns. Collins has spent with the Cincinnati Bengals since then.

Collins' role in Dallas will surely be different this time, though. He'll provide much-needed depth to an offensive line that has some unfortunate question marks as we approach the playoffs.

Tyron Smith has missed multiple games due to multiple injuries and even though he played last Saturday versus the Detroit Lions, his injury history is reason for concern. Backup Chuma Edoga has had his ups and downs but he made costly mistakes that strongly contributed to a road loss against the Miami Dolphins in Week 17.

Additionally, the Cowboys have worries at left guard after Tyler Smith tore his plantar fascia during the win over Detroit. Mike McCarthy indicated Smith "has a chance to play" against the Washington Commanders for the regular season finale.

Collins has played both sides of the offensive line in his career as well as both guard and tackle. He has yet to play in the 2023 season but now returns to the team that gave him a chance following a rough night in 2015 where police investigation knocked him out of the NFL Draft entirely.
