FOXBOROUGH, Mass – For many New England Patriots players, this offseason is very important for them. And Kyle Dugger is one of those individuals.
The safety is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2023 season, and while this could serve as a distraction, Dugger isn't focusing on that.
“Honestly, I haven’t put a lot of thought towards it," he said when speaking exclusively to A to Z Sports. "Really just been trying to stay in the present. I think I have been able to do a good job with that. So really, it’s just kind of, I’ll see when I get there.”
Dugger was drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. And he has proved to be an important part of the defense.
So the main question is would he considering coming back to New England?
“Well, I’ve kind of told my agent to just let me focus on football," he explained. "So any talks that there will be, it’s between them mainly. And I’m just kind of able to focus on the game.”
However, if there was interest from the Patriots, he did let A to Z Sports in on how he is feeling.
“For sure," Dugger said. "Yeah, I definitely would (consider it).”
This mindset shows exactly why he has fit in so well with the Patriots. He is focused on football and not on any of the outside noise.
And that includes all the rumors about potential changes shaking up the organization next year.
“It’s hard to really say honestly. Obviously it would be smart to just kind of weigh up any factors involved," Dugger said about how that could affect his decision. "But yeah, again, it’s hard to kind of really think about what the possibilities (will be) when I’m just trying to make sure I finish the season the right way.”
Across his four years in the league, Dugger has 337 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, nine interceptions, two touchdowns, and 20 passes defended.
That's a pretty impressive resume, so along with the Patriots, expect other teams to be interested as well.
