One catch ended up keeping Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz from taking home a big bag Saturday night.
The sixth-year TE entered a Week 18 game against the Indianapolis Colts with 54 catches on the 2023 season, and he needed six more catches to reach 60 and trigger a $250,000 incentive in his contract.
Unfortunately, Schultz finished the game with five catches, coming up short by just one grab. No $250k.
The NFL's Week 18 is interesting to watch for a multitude of reasons, but one of them is seeing players push at the last minute for their contract incentives. In Schultz's case, six receptions was certainly attainable, but the stars just didn't align for him to earn that extra bonus.
Luckily for Schultz, although he didn't get the $250k, he actually didn't quite go home empty handed. The Texans defeated their division rival Colts 23-19, earning a playoff berth and a possible AFC South victory (pending Sunday's results between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans) in the process.
While Schultz obviously would have loved to hit his incentive, it's likely that he would have preferred a playoff berth and a chance for a Super Bowl run over the extra cash.
