Wide receiver Tyler Boyd may've played his final game in a Cincinnati Bengals uniform. If this was his final season in the locker room, he experienced it all right next to backup quarterback Jake Browning.
One player has been in the building since 2016, witnessing the absolute lowest of the lows before back-to-back AFC Championship game appearances and a run to the Super Bowl. The other has been here for the good times, but had to grind his heart out just to stick around.
Two very different backgrounds experiencing it all together, and Browning wanted to make sure his gratitude was heard.
During Boyd's post-game session with media members, Browning crashed the party to give the veteran wideout well deserved accreditation for his leadership, and how he was impacted by it firsthand.
"[He's] been my locker mate the whole year, been a big part of helping me bounce back from when I throw three picks in a game," Browning interjected over Boyd's right shoulder. "And I think an underrated part of the whole locker room. In the receiver room, obviously we got a ton of talent in there, but a big unsung hero of the locker room.
"I hope he's back but wherever he goes, someone's gonna be lucky to have him in the locker room."
Browning became the sixth quarterback to work with Boyd in eight seasons. He kept the Bengals' season alive for longer than many expected, and it's no surprise that Boyd had a hand in that.
Boyd developed into one of the true leaders of the offense when the Joe Burrow era began four years ago. He found himself as the veteran of a new-look receivers room when it used to be him looking up to A.J. Green. That soon evolved into becoming an elder for the entire roster.
He took it all in stride on his way to a 6,000 career yards and 513 career catches for the team that drafted him all the way back in 2016.
In all likelihood, Boyd will be catching passes from another quarterback next season for a new team. Browning did his best to make sure plenty of interest will be had for what Boyd brings to the table off the field.
