Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown was not in the mood to celebrate the Birds' 33-25 win over the New York Giants on Christmas Day.
When approached by reporters in the locker room, Brown declined to speak to the media.
“I was taught that if I have nothing good to say about something, to not say anything at all,” Brown said. “I’ll take the fine if I have to.”
Brown led the receivers on Monday, catching six of 11 targets for 80 yards. He broke DeVonta Smith's single-season record for receptions (95) by an Eagles receiver along the way with his 101 total catches on the season so far.
Perhaps Brown is missing his crazy October streak of 125-plus receptions per game or he is frustrated over the fact that he hasn't scored a touchdown in four weeks?
Or maybe it's because the Eagles have carelessly lost control over the No. 1 seed and are still battling for the NFC East title.
Whatever it may be, his poor attitude is rubbing off onto his teammates.
Smith was also dissatisfied with the win after logging four receptions for 79 yards, and reaching 1,000 yards receiving for the second year in a row.
“We’re not where we want to be,” Smith said. “I’m not satisfied. Yeah, we got 11 wins, I’m not happy. It needs to be better. What I want to do, what everybody else in here wants to do, what we want to be, we’re nowhere near that, so I’m not happy.”
One guy who was happy with the not-so-pretty win was Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni.
"Yeah, shoot, feels good, right? Obviously, we have some things to clean up, but good energy to get back on the right side of things," Sirianni said. "Always better feeling correcting the tape after a win than after a loss that’s for sure. So, we needed to get out of the funk that we were in and sometimes that’s just by getting a win. I thought there were a lot of good things out there today."
The Eagles have stressed over being on the same page all season long. Now what they need to get on the same page about is understanding that it's okay to celebrate an 11th win in the National Football League … even if it wasn't perfect.
