It's been a while since the Kansas City Chiefs were known for having an elite defense and an average or even bad offense. Usually, it's the other way around. 2023 has been exactly that.

So, while the Chiefs did lose 20-14 to the Las Vegas Raiders, there are some positives to take away. For example, the Chiefs' defense did not allow the Raiders' offense to score a single point. 14 of the 20 points were by the Raiders' defense, and the other six were two field goals by the special teams unit on the opposing sideline.

There is also the fact that the Chiefs' defense did not allow the Raiders' rookie quarterback, Aidan O'Connell, to complete a single pass after the second quarter. That makes the defense look great, but when you think about the fact that the Raiders still won, it's obvious just how bad the offense was.

But let's stick with the defense because they did their job, and they should get a ton of credit for the Chiefs, even though they have nine wins right now. They played so well; they kind of made the Raiders' interim head coach, Antonio Pierce, give a backhanded compliment to his rookie QB.

"Good win," Pierce said to the media. "Do you know the best thing he did yesterday? He took a knee for three straight plays. Victory formation is the best play in football. Undefeated.

O'Connell was 9/21 on the day with 62 passing yards. He didn't have a completion after the first quarter, yet their team won. Saying that his kneeling, which takes no skill at all, was the best thing he did is kind of a backhanded compliment.

Even when guys who play really well win and kneel the game out, there is almost always a play that stands out the most that won them the game. Every quarterback who has a good game and wins has a play that stands out. For Pierce, it was him kneeling because the Chiefs' defense was so good that O'Connell couldn't do anything else.

To me, that shows a lot about how good this defense really is.
