Can the Bears offense regain their footing?

The Bears offense finally looked capable of hanging with the rest of the league in Weeks 4-5 but fell flat in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings. If the Bears want to come out on top in Week 7, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy's unit will need to get back to what was working.

In Week 4 and 5 against the Denver Broncos and the Washington Commanders, the Bears offense scored 34 points per game. In the team's other four games this season, the unit has scored 15 points per game.

The main difference came through the passing game with the Bears offense averaging 286.5 passing yards per game in Weeks 4-5, compared to 139.5 passing yards per game in the other four. Looking at Weeks 4-5, the success can be easily attributed to wide receiver DJ Moore, who was able to flat out dominate recording a combined 16 receptions for 361 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Moore was held in check in Week 6 after facing multiple double/triple team looks on defense. The Bears offense needs to get Moore back involved early on, or take advantage of the added attention going his way by using other pass catchers. This becomes even more important with Bagent now officially confirmed to start.

The Raiders have allowed 193.7 passing yards per game (8th-fewest in the NFL) but opposing quarterbacks have thrown for eight touchdowns (tied for the 10th-most) and have been sacked 13 times (7th-fewest) this season.

3 Players to Watch:

QB Tyson Bagent- Bagent will obviously be the critical player to watch as he makes his first career NFL start on Sunday. Bagent recorded 83 passing yards, one rushing touchdown, one interception and had one fumble in his first NFL action in Week 6.

RB Travis Homer- Homer will return to the lineup after missing Week 6's game with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 5. The 3rd-down back will fill a major role alongside D'Onta Foreman and Darrynton Evans after Roschon Johnson was ruled out on Friday.

DB Elijah Hicks- Hicks is slated to start his fourth game of the season after the Bears once again ruled out safety Eddie Jackson. According to Pro Football Focus, Hicks has allowed six receptions for 106 yards and three touchdowns on eight targets in 2023.
