Theoretically, injuries to Trent Williams and Deebo Samuel should increase the chances of the San Francisco 49ers suffering another upset loss in Week 7.
But the latest point spread for their Monday Night Football matchup with the Minnesota Vikings suggests most people do not subscribe to that line of thinking.
The 49ers opened as seven-point favorites for the primetime clash and, though the line tightened by half a point earlier in the week, the spread has since widened back to the original margin, per betonline.ag.
San Francisco remains a touchdown favorite despite All-Pro left tackle Williams being listed as doubtful with an ankle injury and Samuel being ruled out with a hairline fracture in his shoulder that will keep him out for at least two games.
That line is reflective of the faith the 49ers, who will likely have Christian McCaffrey available despite an oblique injury, have built up over the course of an excellent 5-1 start.
It's also illustrative of the lack of belief that the 2-4 Vikings, who will be missing their most potent offensive weapon in Justin Jefferson, can successfully take advantage of the 49ers' injury woes.
Entering Week 7, Minnesota ranked 18th in Expected Points Added per play on offense and 16th on defense and, though the injuries could be something of an equalizer, it's no surprise the expectation is a 49ers team that went into the week second and third in the same categories is expected to make that disparity count.
The 49ers suddenly have the deepest interior pass rush in the NFL
It’s now an area of huge strength.
