Ronnie Stanley orchestrated quite a block in the Baltimore Ravens’ home win over the Detroit Lions that offensive line coaches at all levels sure will be showing to their teams this week.
On a crucial fourth down play in the early stages of the first quarter, the Ravens opted to roll with a designed run play for Lamar Jackson. The two-time Pro Bowler rolled to his left, and safety Kerby Joseph ended up being the lone Lions player in his way.
Stanley made sure that Jackson would waltz into the end zone for a 7-yard score, as the veteran left tackle not only blocked the safety but also sent him off the field with ease.
Stanley tipped his hat to his former teammate and longtime Ravens guard Marshal Yanda for inspiring his stout block on the play.
"I just knew Lamar was behind me," Stanley said. "I know my boy Marshal Yanda was here, and I was saying to myself, 'What would Marshal do in this situation?' I tried to channel my inner Marshal Yanda on that."
Stanley helped keep Jackson’s jersey clean on the day. The sixth-year passer was not sacked, and he was hit just once against the Lions.
The Ravens cruised to a 38-6 win over Detroit to remain in first place in the AFC North standings.
