The Jets return from their bye-week off with a 3-3 record and are getting ready for the “easier” part of their schedule. First up- the long trip across the parking lot to go “on the road” to face the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

The Giants have been better of late, finally scoring a touchdown at home, two in fact, in a win against the divisional rival Washington Commanders. The victory was the G-Men’s second of the season bringing them to 2-5 on the year.

The Giants offense has been the biggest cause for concern. If you take out one explosive second half against the lowly Arizona Cardinals in which New York exploded for 31 points, the Giants have only scored 54 points in seven games.

While the Jets defense will be no easy task for a struggling offense like the Giants, the Jets could once again be without their top two corner backs in the New York showdown.

Robert Saleh, speaking with reporters Monday, said both Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed remain in the concussion protocol even after the week off for the bye.

"We’ll have a better idea Wednesday," said Saleh on Monday in Florham Park. "They are still in the protocol."

The Jets were without both defensive starters during their Week 6 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Gardner entered concussion protocol one day prior to kickoff. He missed an October 13 practice due to an illness that turned out to be a result of concussion symptoms.

Reed missed back-to-back games against both the Eagles and Denver Broncos prior to the bye week.

Bryce Hall stepped up in Reed’s absence, starting the previous two games at corner, and made big plays in each. The fourth-year pro scooped up a fumble and returned it 39 yards for a game-sealing TD against the Broncos and followed the next week with an interception against the Eagles.

Practice squad call-ups Craig James and Tae Hayes filled in admirably against the Eagles. James had a pass breakup in the end zone and was handed a 78.9 overall grade on ProFootballFocus.

In other Jets injury news, rookie offensive lineman Joe Tippmann’s thigh injury may not be as bad as some have been speculating. Robert Saleh was asked if Tippmann’s injury would be a multiple week injury and Saleh replied, “No, Tippmann is a pretty quick healer. He looked good this morning and I’ll have a much better idea on Wednesday.”

Despite the bye week coming at a very opportune time for the Jets considering their injuries, they aren’t quite healthy yet as they enter the rest of the season. It will be important for Saleh and company to try and maintain the health of his team going forward if the Jets are going to make a playoff run.

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson (17) is tackled by Philadelphia Eagles safety Reed Blankenship (32) during the first half at MetLife Stadium.

MetLife turf is still an issue for Jets’ Wilson

I said it before and I’ll say it again, even when the Jets win, they can’t stop losing. After defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 20-14, the Jets were once again down another starting lineman for multiple weeks. This time it was rookie second-round pick Joe Tippmann who has been playing guard since week three against the […]
