The Philadelphia Eagles have not had the best of luck when it comes to secondary injuries, but they could receive good news regarding their starting safety Reed Blankenship.

Blankenship missed Week 7's win over the Miami Dolphins due to a rib injury that he had suffered the week prior against the New York Jets.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni shared an injury update on Blankenship during Monday's presser.

"We’re hopeful about Reed," Sirianni said.

However, he added that the Eagles won't put a "timetable" on his return.

"When his body is ready to go, he’ll play, Sirianni said. "I know how tough he is. Shoot, he wanted to be out there this week. If it was up to Reed, he would’ve played this week.

"So, we’ll see with him. Obviously, we’re hopeful. We would love to get him back as soon as possible because we know how important he is for our defense."

In his place, Terrell Edmunds and rookie Sydney Brown started at safety.

But now, the Eagles have a new safety weapon after trading for Tennessee Titans All-Pro Kevin Byard on Monday.

In return, the Eagles sent a 2024 fifth and sixth-round pick, along with Edmunds, to Tennessee.

Blankenship's return will be a major boost to the Eagles' secondary as he currently leads the defense in total tackles (39) and passes defended (7) even after missing two games this season.

Until then, the Eagles have Brown and Byard to work with at safety, which is not all that bad.
